It’s almost that time of year again! Fashion Week is coming up soon in New York, London, Milan, and Copenhagen. New styles, designers, and themes are sure to be a big topic on the internet soon, but we may also find some entertainment from the people who are invited to the amazing, yet exclusive events. There has recently been some controversy about the rise of influencers who have found themselves in the front rows of these shows, but no matter what, it looks like they are here to stay. Let’s dive into what to expect out of all the fashion weeks and what influencers might be a part of the events.

Interested in traveling? Find out how creators can help you plan your trip.

How Did Fashion Week Become a Thing?

The tradition of Fashion Week has a long history. Starting in the 1850s, Paris designers sought to bring customers together to view the new seasonal collections. By 1903, this event made its way to New York, where many department stores and designers began to take part. The first official event, advertised as “Press Week,” was held in New York in 1943 for American journalists who could not travel to Paris due to World War II and the Nazi occupation.

There are many different ideas about how these annual, stylish events began, but the first official event was in London, hosted by the British Fashion Council in 1983, after fashion shows became widely successful, catching the interest of royals.

Milan, surprisingly, became the fashion capital of Italy after successful shows in Florence caused too many problems with traffic! In 1958, Milan Fashion Week was founded by the Camera Nazionale della Moda, or the National Chamber for Italian Fashion.

Copenhagen hosts one of the newer official Fashion Weeks, having started in 2006, but can be traced to a collection of clothing fairs from the 1950s. With a rich history of sharing art through clothing, Fashion Week has become an amazing way to gather and display innovative talent.

What to Expect from the Shows in September

One thing to keep in mind about upcoming events is the potential of limited capacity. Whether for economic purposes or the desire to create a more intimate atmosphere at shows, it’s likely that invite lists will be shorter than in the past. That being said, it is still slated for the fall to have an amazing display of opening shows and high-profile comebacks. So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the influencers we expect to see at all of the fashion weeks.

Founder and head of the WeWoreWhat brand, Danielle Bernstein, is a big face in the fashion influencer scene. While not immune to controversy, she has maintained a large follower count on her social media and even debuted her brand at New York Fashion Week last year. Suffice it to say, she likely has a place in all the fashion weeks coming up.

Despite being away from the scene for a little while, Chiara Ferragni seems to have decided to rejoin the glitz and glam. As one of the original fashion bloggers, Ferragni remains a popular influencer on social media. And it looks like she is already attending shows this season, making her a person to look out for at all the fashion weeks.

With a history of working as a wardrobe stylist, Chriselle Lim has been a part of the scene in a plethora of ways. She documents her styles and insights through her website, The Chriselle Factor, and shares frequently on social media. While her schedule keeps her busy and she might not be at all the fashion weeks, she will likely be at a few of the events.

Galagonzalez

Gala Gonzalez is an eco-conscious fashion influencer taking over the scene. Her brand, which launched in 2019, has gained success due to a focus on being comfortable and eclectic. She has attended past fashion weeks, and we’re likely to see her make another appearance.

ireneisgood

Irene Kim is a respected ambassador for the luxury fashion sector. She has been a part of the industry in many ways, including modeling, styling, and, of course, digital content creation. She has recently made news for her glamorous wedding. We’ll have to wait and see how she gets involved with all the fashion weeks this season.

blaireadiebee

Owner and operator of the personal style site, Atlantic-Pacific, Blair Eadie built her name through telling an ongoing narrative about her style. She enjoys blending trends from the East and West Coasts and always adds a pop of color where she can. She has posted about fashion weeks in the past, so we’ll have to see how she shows up this season.
