Anthropic has launched a Projects beta in Claude Code that lets users hand over a group of tasks and have Claude manage the separate AI sessions carrying them out.
Announced September 17, the rollout starts with Pro and Max users who have used cloud sessions and have no existing Projects on the web or desktop. Team and Enterprise access will follow.
Existing Projects remain unchanged for now. Their upgrade will arrive as the redesign expands into chat and Cowork, which Anthropic is already bringing together.
Claude assigns work to separate sessions
Each task runs in its own cloud session, called a thread. Claude coordinates the work through a main conversation, while users can inspect individual threads and intervene. Shared memory carries decisions between tasks, and a project library collects uploaded and generated files.
Anthropic’s documentation says a project can also work with uploaded documents without a code repository. That gives eligible users a route into research and report writing through Claude Code.
Each project belongs to one user. During the beta, neither the project nor its threads can be shared with colleagues.
Parallel threads use the same allowance as other Claude Code sessions. The documentation says a request to run only two at once is a preference, not an enforced cap. Projects cannot exceed plan limits unless the user has enabled usage credits.
One person still gets the review queue
Those restrictions make the beta a more plausible tool for an individual managing website work or document analysis than a replacement for an agency’s shared project board. Colleagues cannot inspect the same threads, and Anthropic says the coordinator sees workers’ reports rather than every step they take.
For a client report, someone still needs to check that each analysis uses the same date range and conversion definition. Shared memory can carry that brief across tasks, but a coordinator reading status reports does not establish that the underlying numbers agree. That reconciliation work belongs in any calculation of the time saved.
